Having worked with AMC on Fear the Walking Dead and the Horror Channel, they brought us on board to help launch Robert Kirkman’s Secret History of Comics, the first entry in the AMC Visionaries documentary series. We were tasked with originating high-end social creative to compliment the more standard pieces being creative by their in-house team.
ROBERT KIRKMAN’S SECRET HISTORY OF COMICS
WHAT WE DID
Our hero piece for the series was a Scrolling Video which highlighted some the best moments from the interviews across the series as well as giving the video a comic book twist with the animation style. Having a video with vertical movement was a great way to make the most of the real estate available in a fan’s feed and also mimic the natural movement of scrolling down.
As we were unable to use the iconic imagery from the comic books themselves, we alluded to the well known beginnings of many hero’s journeys with an Origin Story Looping Video and illustrated Flat Lay that evoked Superman/Clark Kent without infringing on copyright restrictions. We also used our creative to showcase the creators behind them with a series of Creator Cards.
Facebook is AMC UK’s largest platform, so we also created some pieces that were platform specific to make the most of the functionality available. A Facebook Canvas was used to house a stylish infographic that captured details from the series in a visually interesting way. Using Facebook’s Live Photo function we created an interactive Press & Hold that had fans hold down on an image of legend Stan Lee to see him given the comic book treatment.
The campaign was successful in engaging comic book fans and also caught the attention of the A-list talent involved in the series. Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter, shared our Scrolling Video with her 748,000 fans on Facebook, significantly increasing its organic reach.
